Greetings, Enchanted Folk! Thank you for subscribing to my little newsletter here
Venture through the forest gates to hear what my letters will contain, the breath of fresh air Substack seems to be, and how wonderful you are for being here...
Hi folks,
In case we haven’t met before, I’m Katie! Welcome to the enchanted forest, where I write, read and create - and where others can spend time doing the same.
You might have noticed that we’re standing next to an ivy-covered wooden gate. See how it seems to glisten with magic? Go ahead and turn the golden handle if you like. That’s it; the gate is creaking open. Step on through… and here’s the forest glade, where winding pathways lead in many directions.
Let’s venture first to my cottage, where the fireplace crackles and vintage books line the shelves. Leave your shoes by the door and walk into the kitchen, where herbs hang from the wooden beams, and I’ll tell you a little about me.
I live in ye olde England with my parents and sister, and I’m in my second year at university, studying English literature. I love hot chocolate, Victorian aesthetics, and books that make me think and feel deeply. I also scribble my thoughts in notebooks and snap photos wherever I go.
Now I’ll lead you upstairs, where quills, ink pots, parchment and a typewriter await on a wooden desk. Much of my time is spent at this desk, writing! I’m drafting a magical-realism dystopia-mystery novel, about best-friendship, found-family, a changing world, and new beginnings. My main character is also struggling to write a book (self-insert? Perhaps). There’s a way to go before the manuscript is complete, but I intend to publish it in book form.
Let’s sit by the fireplace now - you can have the rocking chair.
I heard of Substack from some lovely writer-selkie friends of mine (Kate Macritchie and Caitlin Gemmell), and discovered what a calm, community-orientated space it seems to be. So, I thought I’d make one!
I do have a website (katiesliteraturecorner.com) where I write the occasional blog post, and you can sign up to my monthly newsletter there for updates about my projects. (Click the picture below to teleport to the sign-up page:)
Meanwhile, I thought my Substack newsletter could be a little more informal, like a check-in every week or so. These letters will be more personal and rambling; my spur-of-the-moment thoughts rather than a structured post. Some will be longer versions of my Instagram captions, while others will be an accompaniment to my website posts.
Thank you for signing up and being here for the journey! I’ll pop the kettle on, and you can sit there by the crackling fire. Feel free to pick up a book to read, jot down thoughts in your notebook, or even go for a wander outside! There’s plenty to see. Your tea will still be warm when you return.

Thank you for visiting my world! Do tell me about yours in the comments. Do you write? What’s the last book you read? Would you prefer to meet a fairy or a dragon? Oh how many questions I have to ask you. There is so much for us to talk about!
What an enchanted welcome, thank you! Looking forward to our first cuppa!
What a lovely introduction, Katie! It makes me feel even more that we are true kindred spirits. 💗
